BABY Audio Tekno

Description

Drums make or break a record, and in modern production the difference between a good beat and a great one is rarely the pattern — it’s the sound. BABY Audio Tekno is a drum synthesizer plugin that gives mix-ready, hard-hitting electronic drums synthesized entirely from scratch: 18 engines, zero samples, and a non-linear analog circuit that makes every hit unique.

Tekno was designed as a spiritual successor to the legendary drum machines of the 80s and 90s — not an emulation, but an evolution of their underlying technology, built with Jatin Chowdhury, one of the leading engineers in analog circuit modeling. Each of the 18 voices (kicks, snares, hats, toms, clap, rimshot, congas, ride, crash, cowbell, block, tonal) is its own drum synthesizer, blending authentic circuit modeling with FM and advanced DSP. The result is drums that hit harder and sit deeper than sample-based alternatives, with the organic variation that makes programmed beats feel performed.

For working producers, the v1.1 sequencer is a genuine time-saver. Build beats directly inside the plugin with dedicated lanes for all 18 voices, up to 32 steps per lane, smart randomization for instant ideas, and auto-fill to get moving fast. Keep patterns evolving with variable step lengths for polyrhythms, lane speed multipliers, and per-step chance values. Four choke groups handle realistic hi-hat and percussion interaction, and you can drag any sequence into your DAW as a MIDI file for final editing — or drag individual hits as audio. Full kit sample export means you can also render your custom kit and use it anywhere.

The mix-stage features are where Tekno earns its place on the master channel of your drum bus. Every voice has dedicated analog-modeled processing — tape saturation, excitation, compression — and the master section adds a filter, reverb, and a limiter/clipper combination tuned for drums. The end-of-chain analog-modeled clipper is key to Tekno’s signature weight: dial the Clip slider against your pattern’s intensity (busy loops need less, single hits can take more aggressive clipping), and use the onboard limiter to glue the kit. Tekno is engineered to never digitally clip your DAW, so you can push with confidence.

Presets come from the best in the business: 72 global kits and 1,296 individual voice presets from Mr. Bill, Richard Devine, Virtual Riot, Yoad Nevo, and others. The smart randomizer (the dice icons) generates new drums with every click, with per-voice randomization locks so you can keep the kick you love while re-rolling everything else.

Tekno runs as VST, VST3, AU, and AAX (64-bit) on macOS 10.11+ (native Apple Silicon) and Windows 10+, with a standalone version included for live use without a DAW. Compatible with Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Bitwig, Reaper, Reason, and more.

Whether you’re producing techno, hip-hop, pop, or anything with electronic drums, Tekno delivers the punch, character, and creative speed that sample libraries can’t.
