Description
Built With the Most Exacting Guitarist in Prog
Distilling John Petrucci’s career into software was, by Neural DSP’s own account, one of their hardest challenges — and Archetype: Petrucci X is the result. It is a complete rig: four amplifiers spanning piezo-acoustic resonance to the famous spaceship lead amp, the wah tone he is identified by, and a recording-grade chain of effects, cabs and tools. It runs in your DAW or standalone, and the same licence unlocks it on Quad Cortex and Quad Cortex mini.
Four Amps, Four Personalities
Piezo emulates an acoustic body for piezo pickups and glassy single-coil work. Clean is rich and sonorous with a bright switch. Rhythm is the thunderous all-rounder whose Tight, Bite and Bass controls shape the gain itself. Lead delivers the sustain and harmonic depth of his recorded solos. Three of the amps carry individual 4-band semi-parametric EQs with high and low-pass filters for final sculpting.
The Chain Around Them
Up front: a wah modelled on his iconic tone and a compressor for control. Pre effects add Overdrive, Phaser/Vibe, Chorus and Flanger. The cabsim runs impulse responses by Jimmy T at DTHQ with six movable microphones, room-mic depth and support for your own IRs. Post effects are three rack units — Stereo Chorus with vintage and spatial modes, Stereo Delay with crossfeed, crystal and tape-saturation modes, and a dark shimmer Reverb.
Made for Practice and Performance
Transpose retunes your guitar ±12 semitones digitally; the Doubler fakes a perfect double-track in stereo; a live tuner is always visible; volume is MIDI-controllable; standalone mode brings a metronome with full time-signature control.
System Requirements
