Description

Ask any great mix engineer where a record’s sound really comes from and they’ll tell you: it’s decided before the mix begins. Tokyo Speirs — multi-Platinum, Juno Award-winning producer, engineer, songwriter, and member of Walk Off The Earth — spent years committing a trusted chain of his favourite analog gear to every take and software instrument, stamping each record with a cohesive fingerprint. RoundTrip is that chain, distilled into a single plugin.

The philosophy is simple: commitment is freeing. When you print a great-sounding chain to your tracks up front, you stop flip-flopping between plugins, stop drowning in infinite undo, and start making faster, more confident mix decisions. RoundTrip was designed to live at the very front of the workflow as the first plugin printed directly to your takes — exactly how the classic records were made.

Inside, it’s a curated collection of Tokyo’s go-to tools, built on years of multi-Platinum mix experience and a hybrid engineering workflow. The mic preamp offers two starting points: the Funky V76, inspired by 60s European tube amplification, or the unmistakable British N73. The console channel follows with a punchy American mid-forward desk or the snap of a Solid 4E-style inline console. The Shine stage adds a dedicated parallel harmonic layer for excitement and bloom. Summing comes courtesy of three legends: the British broadcast 6B tube console, the Brit 8048, or 4000-series VCA summing. Two tape machines — the Amped 102 on GP9 and the Sturdy A800 on 456 — complete the print, with the Climiter catching stray peaks or completely resculpting dynamics at extreme settings.

For mix engineers, the v1.1 additions matter most. Gear Swap and Drift mean every instance of RoundTrip behaves like an individual hardware unit: component values roll within real tolerances, and a slow drift mimics warm-up and power-supply behaviour. Across a 100-track session, that translates to genuine analog variance instead of digital buildup — the difference between a mix that sounds “processed” and one that sounds like a record. All stages are gain-matched to pink noise at -20 dB, so your A/B comparisons stay honest.

Practical workflow tips: print RoundTrip to vocals, drums, and bass at the tracking stage with subtle settings to glue the foundation together. For less-than-ideal recordings — bedroom takes, mismatched sessions — use it to match new material to studio-recorded tracks. On the mix bus, skip the summing stage during tracking, then recreate the final pass: run the mix through the summing console and print it back to tape.

RoundTrip runs as AAX, AU, and VST3 on Mac (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows, 64-bit only, and supports all major DAWs including Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio One, and Reaper.

Every customer receives their own individual license key. Instant download delivery via email.

Under the hood, RoundTrip is efficient enough to sit across every channel: minimum requirements are just 4GB of RAM (16GB recommended) and 200MB of free disk space, running on macOS 10.15+ (Intel and ARM native) or Windows 10, 64-bit only. All three plugin formats — AAX, AU, VST3 — are included, covering Pro Tools 12+, Logic Pro, Ableton Live 11+, FL Studio 23+, Cubase 13+, Studio One, Reaper, Bitwig, and Digital Performer. A free 14-day trial is available from the developer, so you can commit it to a real mix and judge the results before spending anything.
