Tuff Nerds LEADR comes from independent studio Tuff Nerds and producer Origami, built on a simple philosophy: producers would rather play an idea than program one. LEADR is a lead-focused sampler and synth hybrid whose retro, game-like interface hides a deep performance engine — three sound sources, a chord system that outputs MIDI, a cascading arpeggiator and a full effects rack, all aimed at turning one key press into a musical statement.

Three Engines Under One Roof

The CRAFT section blends a dual-slot sampler, a built-in oscillator synth and a modelled Instruments source. The sampler ships with 500+ custom one-shots from the OTAKU one-shot packs and accepts your own samples. The Instruments source adds physically modelled guitar, strings, voice, choir and flute, which you can arrange in the Instrument Stage — a mini band in a room, where speakers control width and the carpet controls damping, with lamps and a projector setting the mood. Ambient Textures (rain, birds, room tone, chimes) layer underneath for atmosphere that usually takes three extra plugins.

Chord Lock: Harmony Without the Piano Lessons

Chord Lock plays a full progression from one key: scale, fixed and custom voicings, strum for feel, voice leading for smooth transitions — and it sends the chord to your DAW as MIDI. Feed that output into Serum, Diva or any other instrument and LEADR becomes the harmonic brain of your whole session while you keep playing single notes.

WATERFALL and the Drawable Arp

LEADR’s WATERFALL arpeggiator overlaps notes into a sustained cascade rather than stepping mechanically, producing arpeggios with natural bloom. The custom arp is fully drawable and adds gate, swing, dynamics, grouping, two-hand mode, latch, stab and a DICE button for endless fresh patterns — with a live visualiser, note flash and saveable presets.

Finishing Tools

An 18-effect rack, a drawable Mod modulation source that can target almost anything, an OSC octave key and a CHAOS button complete the instrument. Patches you craft save and recall in any session.

Library, Updates, Platforms

200+ presets and 500+ one-shots (≈1.3 GB library) are included, and updates are free for life — the instrument has already gained new engines, the Instruments source, expansions and Logic support since release. LEADR runs on Mac (macOS 10.15+, universal Apple Silicon and Intel; VST3 + AU) and Windows (VST3), in FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubase, Studio One and Bitwig.
