Description
Build the Instrument the Track Needs
Every production eventually asks for a sound that doesn’t exist yet. Wavescrate Terrain is the Mac instrument built for that moment: a multi-instrument and sound design engine where eight oscillators, eight synthesis engines and a free-form modular patcher let you construct instruments instead of just browsing them. Add sixteen effects, a sampler-slicer and the Terrain FX plug-in, and one purchase covers synthesis, sampling and creative processing.
Eight Oscillators, Zero Fixed Rules
Terrain’s oscillator section holds eight slots, A to H. There are no assigned roles — each slot runs whichever engine the patch needs: Wavetable, Sample, Granular, FM, Resynth, Harmonic, Modal or Organics. Layer a wavetable over a granular cloud over a modal bell, then flip any card to its back panel for the advanced layer: FM routing, phase distortion and the parameters that turn a good patch into a personal one.
The Patcher Network
Routing in Terrain is a patcher you cable yourself. Every oscillator, effect and card is a node; connections are yours to invent. The workflow is deliberately frictionless — drop a cable onto empty space, type “reverb”, and the effect materialises already patched. Sixteen effects live inside this network, chainable in any order and position, so the line between “instrument” and “processing” dissolves.
CHOP: Slice, Split, Rebuild
CHOP is the sampler and slicer built into Terrain. Feed it a loop and it slices the audio, pulls it apart into stems, and lets you drag results straight into your DAW. Keep material inside instead, and CHOP output can drive the Sample, Granular or Resynth engines — a two-bar loop becomes a playable, evolving instrument.
Terrain FX for Your Mixer
The package also includes Terrain FX: the Patcher running as an effect plug-in. Build cabled processing networks around any track — voice, drums, synths, stems — and recall them like presets.
Library and Expression
717 presets come loaded: synth pads, basses, leads, keys, bells, plucks, arps, glitch instruments, textural pads and atmospheres, mixing factory design with community creations. MPE support adds per-note bend, pressure and slide for expressive performance.

For Mixers Who Sound-Design
Mix engineers will feel at home in Terrain’s logic: sources, processing and routing in one visible network, everything reorderable, nothing buried. That familiarity makes it a secret weapon for production-minded mixing — build a one-off textural instrument for a transition, print a CHOP rebuild of the artist’s own loop as a signature riser, or run stems through a Terrain FX network designed for this record alone. It is the rare instrument that serves the writing session and the mix session equally well.
